MP’s man ejected

A bizarre episode I witnessed at the official opening of the recently relocated Gateway College, Leicester, on Thursday.

Amid tight security around Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, a young man was thrown out by a burley and severe-looking detective.

“You’ve got no ID and you weren’t invited. So get out,” he told him.

The man was Leicester East MP Keith Vaz’s assistant who often travels with him on constituency business taking photographs to record each occasion.

The last straw seems to have been that he stuck close to Keith’s side during the official welcome and tour of the building with the royal visitor, taking snaps as he went, rather than hanging back like the rest of us.
