In the end it happened without so much as a whimper.
Leicester’s Riverside College, formerly known as Rowley Fields Secondary School, was consigned to history.
The final decision, when in came, in the Town Hall this afternoon, passed by in the same matter-of-fact way as reports on the council’s contract management system and cash collection facilities.
No protests, no members of the public to witness the event, no discussion of the points put forward by those who wanted the school to remain open, no last-ditch bid to change minds.
In truth it was recognition that the battle was lost long ago.
